16m tempo run and 100km ride - goodbye 2006!

I went and did 16km tempo on Friday night and it felt really good but I was very sore yesterday so I only did some core stability stuff.

The real reason for this post however is that I finally got my long ride up to 100km today!

Yup, it took me three hours and 45 mins but I did it, starting at 10 am and getting back by 2, I had a couple of muesli bars at 33km and 60km and drank four bidons worth of water. I'm now sore from head to toe and know it's going to be twice as bad tomorrow but damn does it feel gooood, bring on 2007!

And for those of you who analyse the detail of the above photo, no I didn't swim across the river, google earth hasn't picked up that there is a bridge there yet!

This means I got one of my two big goals for the end of the year (the other being getting my long run up to 32 km), but I'm happy with 1 from 2 considering how sick I was about a fortnight ago!

Catch y'all in '07!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all!

I know I've been gone for a bout a month now but I got sick after Melbourne and my training has only just started back again in the last few days.

Having said that I did get some great runs in Melbourne (as well as picking up my awesome new skins from Wobbly, thanks mate!) and I'm feeling really good as I start back now.

I also got some bike lights today and some new goggles (really good ones!) and paddles for swim training too.

In short everything's going well, and thanks to my most marvelous new toy (a laptop!) my blogging should be far more accurate!

Thanks to Jen for checking up on me...

Hope everyone had a wonderful christmas!

building momentum... but will it dissipate?

I ended up doing another bike swim bike on Tuesday but at a different pool so all up it was a thirty km ride and 2km swim.

I haven't had a spare second to go to the squad this week and I fly to Melbourne tomorrow night so it'll have to start when I get back next week. But I did speak to the coach and he seems really cool so I'm really rather excited about it.

Wednesday I did the cycleogical group ride again which was really good and felt a lot easier than last week. When I add the distance I ride there and back it's sixty km all up which is a good mid-week ride so I'm really happy with it at the moment. It also leaves me fresh enough to double up and do some speed work or hills in the afternoon, though I haven't quite had time for that yet!

Thursday was a rest day - I was exhausted from a project that finished the day before and thought it was time to give the body a day off! (it had been eight days straight training by then!)

Then today I really wanted to have a hard session before I leave tomorrow so I did a really hard brick set which basically was three laps of Mt Cootha going anti-clockwise (the hard way), clockwise (the not-so-hard way) and then anti-clockwise (the hard way), again (total of 60km)and then did a fast-as-possible four km off the bike. It felt really good and my legs are tired but not sore as I sit down to write this post.

Hopefully I'll squeeze in 10km tomorrow morning and then try and get in at least three no-watch-just-exploring-melbourne runs in next week.

Just got to hope I don't lose this momentum when I get back!
