Hey all,

thanks for your supportive comments!

I've been swimming and cycling occasionally. The cycling is not so good because I'm not allowed out of my seat which makes it very interesting. It's teaching me to keep my cadence up and its probably good for me in the long run anyway...

Swimming is going well but I'm still yet to join a squad. I just can't find the time!

Water running sounds... interesting... no, I'm being cynical, I'm actually keen to give it a go if it'll help keep my technique, but again, getting to a class or something is nigh on impossible at the moment...

No need for classes, just check out some water running websites and they explain the technique. You can get quite a good workout.

We have missed seeing you out on the road. Luckily Bizarro Owen is around to make up for it :)

I'm not running that often at the moment, but when I do I expect to see my besties there. Damn shame to hear you are injured and not have your beautiful smiling face at Pats.

Hope the water running gets a try out this weekend - I'm told its loads of fun ha ha ha ha

I'm sorry to read about the stress fracture Owen.

Regarding the water running (if you're permitted to do it)... buy a floatation vest and use the deep end of the pool (sounds obvious).

You can do quite a session - similar to a running one... warm-up easy, then various length of intervals (30sec fast, 30sec slow) or longer fast with easy treading water recovery. It's excellent at keeping the cardio fitness high and closely related to the running action, so very good for runners recoverying from injury because of that.

sorry I haven't been over for a while mate - and really sorry about your injury.

But you're right about the bike. The best training you can do is to keep the chain in the small chain-ring and keep you butt firmly planted on the saddle for the entirety of your ride. Work on getting your cadence as high as you can, and you'll be sweet when you can return to some big gear stuff :)

Like the others, sorry to hear about the injury. I have been doing heaps of water running and found it really hard work. It certainly provides a great cardio workout.
